Smartbike: App for bike-sharing

The challenge

SmartBike is a multi-brand bike-sharing system rolled out by Clear Channel in various cities around the world. The solution is based on a single codebase that enables the creation of a mobile app for each city, featuring a customised interface and corporate identity.

Using the app, users can locate and check the availability of bikes and free docking spaces, navigate to the nearest stations, and collect and return bikes directly via the app. It also allows users to sign up for the service in different ways: short- and long-term subscriptions, to meet a range of user needs.

The app also features a user dashboard where users can view and edit information regarding their profile, subscription, method of accessing the service, invoices received and journeys made. Users are notified via push notifications about various actions relating to their subscription (such as when a journey begins or ends), thereby improving efficiency and safety.

Objectives

The main objective of the SmartBike app is to promote sustainable mobility by offering users a convenient and accessible solution for using shared bikes.

How have we done it?

  • Native iOS and Android apps
  • Map
  • Payment gateway
  • Registration and user area
  • Push notifications

Results provided

SmartBike has transformed urban mobility in a number of cities, notably Antwerp with 150,000 users and Malmö with 33,500 users. Currently, more than 30 per cent of journeys made in Antwerp are by users who use the app to manage the collection and return of bicycles, optimising their use and improving their experience. This trend in usage continues to rise.
